Manny, you are a genius!!! I never thought this machine would be usable again. I WAS a little surprised to see an ERROR 20 come up when attempting to play my first tape. But my room was ice cold in the morning and I figured the machine had just come through icey states and on cold trucks on route to me. But then I tried it again, (after rebooting), and found if I choose Fast Forward rather than Play, and then going to Play, the tape would indeed Play just fine. Many days have gone by and I've done extensive trials with many tapes. It seems temperature has nothing to do with it. I always get an ERROR 20 the first time any tape is inserted. However, if I use the Fast Forward technique and then go to Play.... it plays EVERY time. So I don't mind doing that as long as the machine once again LIVES and plays my tapes. YOU ARE THE SONY DOCTOR and I am so glad to have found you after THREE repair people said it was hopeless!!!! THANX!!!!!

Got the camera back and it worked like a champion, instantly became our best camcorder we have. So I ended up sending in 7 more camera's to be repaired the very next day. E-mails were very responsive when I had concerns about the status of my order which was very much appreciated. Overall I am very happy and plan to continue to send in any of my camera's that need service to you guys.

Composite video and audio outputs work fine on this restored TR81. I have not been able to confirm S-video output from the camcorder to two Dell monitors I have with S-inputs. I am trying to get access to other device with S-output, to determine that my two Dell monitors have working S-inputs. I assume the S- output on the camcorder SHOULD work, correct. Bengt Ivarsson

It seems my unit is in good working order. You do very good work. The only issue is that I needed the box I used to bring the unit to you and you didn't have it when I picked up the unit. I needed that for another VCR.

Received my repaired unit promptly and it seems to be working just fine! I gave up my original SL-HF900 20 years back and now it's great to have one back in my line up of equipment! I'm so happy I stumbled across DoctorSony! thanks Manny!

Unit was over 30 years old, we sent to A-Tech Electronics and they were able to restore and save our high end vcr. Was not a cheap fix but was well worth having it restored to proper working order. We will definitely use them again for our service needs. They always keep us updated on the status of our repair and stand behind there work. Thank you again for all your hard work.

The unit works like new. No worries now about damaging original 8mm tapes while transferring to digital format.
